When you do things from your soul, you feel a river moving in you, a joy.

The Joy|Money Matrix™ is

A PARADIGM SHIFT & A PERMISSION SLIP

A paradigm shift in how you make every single decision in your business and life. No longer will you be ruled by the bottom line alone. Instead imagine the revenue that comes from being aligned with your joy while you say, "No thanks!" to the activities, clients and marketing that don't light you up.

A permission slip that gives you the freedom to operate in a way that maximizes both joy and revenue. Hate email? Email begone! Can't stand facebook? Delete it from your phone! Ready to stop selling? Give it up for good...and still. make. money.

It might sound too good to be true, but the JMM works off of my basic premise- the Joy Imperative- which states:

When you prioritize JOY, your REVENUE increases.

It's counterintuitive. Especially for those of us raised with the no pain, no gain belief system. It can take years, decades, even a lifetime to unwind that belief and examine it for any vestiges of truth. Hint: there aren't any.

So at what point are you ready to let go of the hustle, let go of the pain, and enJOY the gain?

I use the JMM all the time now ... every project is planned using it. Every marketing decision is gauged by where it falls on my JMM. I use it with my clients to help them make decisions in their business model and their marketing ... in everything.
— Beth Grant, creator of the Archetype Alignment Grid

To help you figure out where you fall on the spectrum of JOY vs. REVENUE, I created a quiz.

After over 13 years working with hundreds of business owners, I realized that we fall into one of four basic categories: Maximizer, Potentializer, Explorer and Appreciator.

Each one possesses a different combo of ROI (Return on Investment) and ROE (Return on Emotion) in her business. So take this short 5 question quiz to figure out which one you are. See you on the other side!

Hi, I'm Lauren and I created the JMM because I felt like I was doing a ton of things that didn't feel joyful.

I don't know about you, but I became an entrepreneur because I wanted to use my creative abilities and because I wanted a lifestyle different from the one presented to us at college graduation (80 hour work weeks, constant travel and bosses). But somewhere along the way, I lost my way. I realized that I was spending most of my time (albeit from my NYC apartment or beautiful country cottage) doing work that was ok while my heart and soul longed for something else.

Painting. Writing. Dancing. Gardening. Joy.

These are the activities I wanted to be doing. How did I get so off track? So I pondered how Really Smart People make decisions. How do they stay consistent? The answer is that they use mental models. In this case, a matrix. But a lot of matrices don't work for us creative/spiritual types.

What, then, would be the components of a system that covers both heart and head? The physical and the ephemeral?

I figured that we'd want to look at both Joy and Money when deciding about what to prioritize.

And the Joy|Money Matrix™ was born.

Finally I had a way to reconcile my business activities with my soul-sustaining ones. Armed with sticky notes and markers, I got to work.

The result? I have a visual record of tasks to delegate and eliminate or activities to propagate into new streams of revenue.

I'm more connected to my creative artist side and more productive in my business than ever before. This Joy|Money Matrix™ is no joke. It's even helped me see what I need to delegate, who I should spend more time around (and less), and has helped me create the rituals that sustain my health, sanity and cash flow.

And now, I'm really excited to share the JMM with as many people as possible. Let's go!

You didn't become an entrepreneur to spend your life on social media.

And your clients (as much as you may love them) are not why you've "lost that loving feeling."

The reason that you lose your joy is because you're not giving yourself opportunities to cultivate it on a daily basis.

When did you lose that innate impulse? You probably had it when you were a kid, but somewhere along the line you pushed your joy-giving activities down your priority lists until you can't even remember what they are.

Roller skating. Watching a ballgame. Playing your guitar. Rolling around in the grass. Performing in plays. Finger painting. Puzzles. Blowing bubbles. Reading. Cooking.

I got so used to spending my time on "revenue-producing activities" that I no longer recognized my lost joys.

Here's the thing though:

What you love doing can sustain you.

For me it's painting. Something I love doing. Something I put off for 15 years. And when I got started again, BAM! a commission came right in to remind me that joy and money can go together.

We need the joy. But we need the money too.

What's cool about prioritizing joy is that it makes the rest of our lives (the quotidien of business, for example), less of a drag. When we are cultivating our joys, we become better business owners, better friends, better spouses.

That's why I use the word sustain. Let your joys sustain you- in all spheres of your life. Give them a chance. I'm not saying chuck your day job or shutter your business.

All I'm saying is try the Joy|Money Matrix™. Uncover your joys. Discover new ways to sustain yourself and your family. Recover your dreams.

Happiness is not in the mere possession of money; it lies in the joy of achievement, in the thrill of creative effort.
— Franklin D. Roosevelt

This is something I hadn't done in years. And with the information from my own matrix, I started creating again. And even sell my work!
